Democrats Abroad Celebrate Independence Day and Overseas Citizens Voters Week

Worldwide Fourth of July Parties, Voter Registration Drives Planned

Washington, DC – Democrats Abroad members will celebrate Independence Day, Armed Forces Voters Week and Overseas Citizens Voters Week with voter registration events planned around the world. June 28th through July 7th, 2010 is recognized as OCVW to encourage all citizens voting under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act to register to vote or request an absentee ballot. Democrats Abroad is the official arm of the Democratic Party for Americans living outside of the United States.

"As Americans living abroad, we know that we can make a difference in elections at home. In fact, our vote has made the difference in the outcome of many recent elections,” said Christine Schon Marques, International Chair, Democrats Abroad. “While celebrating the Fourth of July in every corner of the world, we will also be registering Americans to vote so that we can help keep Democrats in Congress this election year.”

Americans living abroad can register to vote at www.votefromabroad.org (VFA).This website is sponsored by Democrats Abroad and makes registering to vote simple for any American living abroad.

VFA sponsored a photo contest seeking the most creative pictures of Americans living abroad promoting VFA. Entries came from across the globe, including a Venice gondolier, Mexico Day of the Dead and even zebras. The winning photo, "Munich Marienplatz," is attached.
